Oberlin, OH- The Yeowomen field hockey team took on their conference rival, the Kenyon Ladies, for a date under the lights Friday night. In a packed house, Oberlin battled for victory but came up short in the 2-0 loss. The defeat drops the Yeowomen to 0-5, while Kenyon moves to 3-2.
Â
The Oberlin defense battled through the majority of the first half, unable to get the ball across to their attacking half until late in the second quarter. Neither team managed to get on the scoreboard in the first 15 minutes of play until the Ladies finally struck in the second quarter. A chip shot deflected by the Oberlin backline, made its way into the back of the net in the 23' to give the Ladies the 1-0 lead. Senior keeper
Julia Vincent recorded eight saves in the first half, while
Jackie Oh earned a defensive save.
Â
The second half got underway quickly, seeing the Purple and White storm the Yeowomen defense. It took just under five minutes for the Ladies to strike again, this time with a long shot to give themselves the 2-0 advantage. A strong fourth quarter that saw Oberlin cross midfield several times, was not enough as Kenyon held on the 2-0 victory.
