Oberlin, OH- The Oberlin soccer team hosted the Otterbein Cardinals on Wednesday night for their second home match of the season. A pair of goals from senior
Nic Jandeleit were not enough for the Yeomen as they dropped the contest to the Cardinals 4-2. The loss moves Oberlin to 2-3-1 on the year, while Otterbein remains undefeated at 4-0.
Â
The Cardinals got the game moving quickly, taking four shots in the opening minutes with a pair of them saved by Yeomen keeper
Parker Whitcomb. One shot more and Otterbein found their way onto the scoreboard for the first goal of the game. Oberlin finally got their first shot at net as
Nasim Amer took aim towards cage but was saved by the Cardinals keeper. Team leader in goals, Jandeleit, had the answer for the Obies as
Harrison Tramposch found the senior upfield for a shot at cage. Tied 1-1, neither team were able to capitalize on their final shots before the clock expired and took the game into the second half.
Â
Oberlin's
Ben Kessler got the half started with an early shot that led to a pair of corner kicks for the Yeomen. Taken by
Augie Smith, neither emerged as shots but it gave the Yeomen much needed momentum. Minutes later, Whitcomb came up for a huge save on the doorstep of the goal to keep the score even. A determined road team found the back of the net twice more in the next several minutes to take a 3-1 lead with 25 minutes to play. Competition began to get much more physical as a pair of yellow cards were assigned Oberlin's
Jon Schafer followed by Otterbein's Hayden Vu in the following ten minutes of play. The Cardinals kept their momentum rolling as they found the back of the net yet another time to extend their lead to three. In the 87', Jandeleit gave the Yeomen faithful hope with a score from the top of the box but it was too little, too late as the game ended 4-2, Otterbein on top.
The Yeomen take the field again next on Saturday, September 18 as they hit the road north to take on Alma College in Michigan. Kickoff is set for 2:30pm with live stream availableÂ
