Danville, KY- The Oberlin men's soccer team took on Centre College for a late-night matchup on Saturday night. A first half goal from
Alex Caceres was not enough for the Yeomen, as they dropped the game to the Colonels by a score of 2-1. The loss moves the Yeomen's season record to 2-2-1, while the Colonels move to 3-1-1.
Â
The Oberlin defense locked in during the first ten minutes of the match, holding Centre to only one shot during that time. At the 17:05 mark,
Nic Jandeleit sprinted with the ball up field to send a cross pass to Caceres inside the goal box. On the very first shot of the game, Caceres sent the ball into the lower left corner of the net to put the Yeomen up 1-0 over the Colonels. Oberlin worked the field to extend their lead, adding shots recorded by Xander Franoeur and
George Gworek. In the final 20 seconds of the half,
Thomas Kanter looked to add to the OC lead on a long shot at the top of the box. With the shot saved by Centre's keeper, both teams took the sideline, Oberlin up 1-0.
Â
Centre came out fast, ready to even the score and, within five minutes of the whistle, they were able to get the goal they needed to tie the match. Oberlin looked to score the equalizer but a pair of back-to-back shots from
Brian LaFranchi were saved just short of the goal line, keeping the score tied at one. In the final four minutes of play, Centre found the boost they needed to score off a well-placed header and take a 2-1 lead over Oberlin. With not enough time to respond to the Colonels attack, the Yeomen drop the game to Centre 2-1.
