Oberlin, OH – The Oberlin College field hockey team played its first game on the Bailey Field turf in 679 days, but the homecoming didn't go as planned as the visiting Sweet Briar University Vixens escaped town with a 1-0 win on Saturday afternoon.
The Yeowomen failed to threaten much on offense, triggering just two shots in the contest which came off the stick of
Abigail Patchen and
Susan Robinson-Cloete, whose attempt was on goal.
The Vixens put 10 of their 14 attempts on frame. Yeowomen goalie
Julia Vincent went the distance in goal and did her part to keep the home side in the game.
Lea Watkins-Chow also helped the cause with a pair of defensive saves to run her career account to 16 and season mark to five.
The Vixens posted the game's lone goal in the 42nd minute as Lara Jost injected a corner and got it fed back to her on the near post from Brynna Hughes before flicking it into the cage.
Sweet Briar, which had an 8-3 advantage in penalty corners, moved to 3-1 on the year while Oberlin dropped back to 0-3.
The Yeowomen will return to the road to take on Concordia University (WI) on Wednesday afternoon at 3 p.m.
