Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College men's basketball team was held to under 36 percent shooting in a 70-47 home loss to the Kalamazoo College Hornets on Thursday night at Philips Gym.
Oberlin has now been below the 36 percent threshold in three straight games as its losing skid extended to four in a row after opening the season with a pair of victories.
Dimitrije Radusinovic led the offensive effort tonight, finishing with 13 points in 26 minutes off the bench. Senior
Wolf Moser has netted double figures in four straight games as he added 10 points, while
Dorde Otasevic chipped in nine points to accompany his four steals and three blocked shots.
Yuuki Okubo knifed his way inside for the game's first points 82 seconds into the contest but the Yeomen went scoreless for over five minutes as the Hornets grabbed a 12-2 lead. One of three Radusinovic triple-hits had the Yeomen within 10, 24-14, with just over five minutes left in the half but K'Zoo would ultimately carry a 33-19 cushion into the locker room at the break.
Early in the second session the lead would balloon out to 22, 45-23, and 3-pointer from Gabriel Sharpe at the 10-minute mark swelled the differential out to 56-30 to effectively put the game out of reach. However, the Yeomen did not quit as they responded with a 10-0 run that featured five points from
Darien Knowles and five more from Otasevic. Moser would then have a look at a corner three that could have potentially trimmed the gap down to 13 with 6:34 left to play but his shot was off the mark and the Hornets answered with seven straight points to squash any threat of a potential comeback.
Sharpe led a trio of Hornets in double figures with 17 points. As a team, K'Zoo shot 55.1 percent (27-of-49) and won the battle of the boards 33-24.
The Yeomen dropped back to 2-4 on the year while the Hornets headed home to Michigan at an even 3-3.
Oberlin will have a tight turnaround as they hit the road tomorrow ahead of Saturday's North Coast Athletic Conference tilt at Wabash College. Tip-time is set for 2 p.m.
