Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Yeomen Stumble at Carnegie Mellon

Pittsburgh, PA – Senior Wolf Moser scored a career-high 27 points, but he didn't get much help from his teammates as the Oberlin College men's basketball team dropped an 84-64 decision at Carnegie Mellon University on Tuesday night.

Moser finished 8-of-17 from the floor, which included a career-best six triples on 12 tries from beyond the arc. The other four Yeomen starters combined for just 10 points on the night. Aidan Oliver added a nice spark off the bench as he chipped in 11 points on 4-of-7 shooting in 20 minutes of work.

The Tartans jumped on the Yeomen right from the start, scoring the first 10 points of the game before a 3-pointer from Moser finally got Oberlin on the board at the 15:49 mark of the opening half. An Oliver triple-hit and layup from Andrew Gannon had the Yeomen within three, 16-13, midway through the half but the Tartans turned up the offense from there with a 12-3 spurt to push the lead out 12, 28-16. The margin would only swell from there as CMU ultimately carried a 43-26 lead into the intermission.

The second half was much more closely contested with the Tartans outscoring the Yeomen by three, 41-38, over the final 30 minutes of action but the outcome was never in doubt as the CMU lead ballooned out to as many as 30 before Oberlin shrunk it back down.

Jack Stone led the Tartans with 16 points off the bench while three other players finished in double-figures. As a team, CMU shot 51.8 percent (29-of-56), while the Yeomen were held to just a 35.7 percent (20-of-56) success rate.

The loss dropped the Yeomen back to an even 2-2 while Carnegie Mellon moved to 3-2.

Oberlin will return home to open conference play next Tuesday as they welcome The College of Wooster to town for a 7 p.m. tip.
