Kent, Ohio – The Oberlin College men's basketball team played an exhibition game at Division I Kent State on Tuesday night, falling 84-38 to the Golden Flashes.
The Yeomen and Flashes have met six times in recent history as Flashes Head Coach Rob Senderoff was an assistant at Yale during the playing days of Yeomen bench boss
Isaiah Cavaco.
On this night it was
Dimitrije Radusinovic who led the Yeomen with 12 points on 4-of-9 shooting from beyond the arc.
Dorde Otasevic and
Andrew Gannon each added six points, while point guard
Yuuki Okubo paced the Yeomen with five rebounds and four assists.
The Flashes jumped on the Yeomen early and never looked back. A 3-pointer from
Cole Otley with 10:31 left in the opening half trimmed the KSU lead down to 25-13 but Oberlin would go ice cold from there as Kent State closed the session on a 26-3 run, holding the Yeomen scoreless for the final 7:20 of the session as they ballooned the lead to 51-16 heading into the intermission.
While the finale outcome was never in doubt, the Yeomen kept battling throughout the second half, which was headlined by a dunk from Otasevic at the 10:22 mark.
With Kent State's size and athleticism, Oberlin was forced to play mostly on the perimeter as 34 of the Yeomen's 50 shot attempts came from 3-point land with nine of them going down. Overall, the Flashes held the Yeomen to just 26 percent (13-of-50) shooting while they checked in at 48.4 percent (31-of-64).
The Yeomen will play their first home game of the year on Saturday afternoon as they welcome Manchester University to town for a 1 p.m. showdown.
