Gambier, OH- A strong second half defense was not enough for Oberlin as they took on Kenyon on Wednesday night. Conceding a 4-0 loss, the Yeowomen now sit at 0-15 on the season, and 0-7 in NCAC play.
The Yeowomen got off to a strong start in the first half, blocking the Ladies' first shot on goal. The Kenyon attack followed that up with another shot that snuck past the Oberlin backline. Up 1-0 as the second quarter got underway, the Kenyon Ladies didn't waste any time getting another goal as the conference rival scored off a penalty corner. Needing to get a stop, Oberlin doubled down on defense and accounted for three blocks and a pair of
Mary Post saves over the next several minutes. The Kenyon onslaught continued though, as the Purple and White scored again off a penalty corner to take a 3-0 lead. Over the final five minutes of the half, both teams battled for possession in the midfield and the Yeowomen stepped up to keep the Ladies from taking any shots before halftime.
Second half adjustments were made noticeable at the start of the third quarter as the Yeowomen made a pair of blocks and carried the ball into the midfield several times. In the 43', the Ladies came knocking for another goal, but Post made a save and the Crimson and Gold backed them up with a block to end the attacking possession. Heading into the final quarter of action down 3-0, Oberlin battled to find an answer to the Kenyon game plan. A trio of Kenyon shots were taken early, but
Lea Watkins-Chow made the initial defensive save setting up a penalty corner for the Ladies. Post made saves off the two shots from the corner opportunity to keep Kenyon from advancing their lead. The strong offense held up until the very last second when Kenyon snuck the ball pas the goal line for a final score of 4-0.
