First-Half Goals Plague Yeowomen in NCAC Contest

Wooster, OH- The Oberlin College field hockey team fell at the College of Wooster by a score of 6-0 on Friday night.

Although getting off a strong defensive start with a trio of blocks and a save from goal minder Julia Vincent, the Yeowomen conceded their first goal less than ten minutes into the action to go down 1-0 in the first period. The Fighting Scots only needed that one goal to find their offensive momentum and continued to score three unanswered goals in the following period. The Oberlin attack finally got their sticks on the ball midway through the second period as Elizabeth Modahl took a shot on cage off a penalty corner pass. Saved by the Fighting Scots' keeper, the Yeowomen remained scoreless. Wooster got one last goal off before the buzzer at the end of the half to go into their locker room up 5-0 on Oberlin.

With a switch in the cage, Mary Post helped the Yeowomen hold the Fighting Scots scoreless during the third period. Although unable to create any offensive movement during those first 15 minutes after the half, the Yeowomen locked down on defense and held the Fighting Scots to just three shots. As the fourth quarter got underway, Oberlin earned another penalty corner that resulted in a quick shot from Modahl that was blocked by a Wooster defender. With just minutes remaining in the match, the Fighting Scots scored their sixth and final goal of the night and maintained possession of the ball thereafter to secure their 6-0 shutout.

The Yeowomen travel for their next match on Wednesday, October 27 to Gambier, OH to take on NCAC rival Kenyon. Oberlin played one of their closest matches of the season against the Ladies just two months ago in the 2-0 loss. The match is set to begin at 11am with live stream available here and live stats available here.
