Yeowomen Fall to First-Place Denison

Oberlin, Ohio - The Oberlin College volleyball team closed out the home portion of their schedule, falling in straight sets to the Denison University Big Red by the scores of 25-8, 25-16, and 25-19.

The loss dropped Oberlin back to an even .500 at 10-10 overall and to 2-5 in the NCAC while the Big Red remained unblemished in conference action, moving to 6-0 and 17-5 overall.

The Yeowomen struggled to find their rhythm all night as just five kills from Natalie Dufour paced the attack. Myriahlea DeHaro led the backline effort with 15 digs.

The Big Red raced out to an 11-0 lead and never looked back in set one.

The Yeowomen posted the first three points of the second set but a block assist by Sophia Sobota and Lucy Anderson gave Denison a 5-4 lead and they would never trail again the rest of the session.

The third set was tightly contested for much of the way. Dufour hammered down a free ball to make it a 14-11 Yeowomen advantage but the Big red would respond with the next five points and would never surrender the lead again.

Oberlin hit just .074 for the match with 21 kills and 14 errors on 94 swings. The Big Red were impressive with 47 finishes against 13 miscues on 113 attempts for a .301 success rate. They also dropped in seven aces compared to Oberlin's three.

The Yeowomen will step out of conference for a weekend trip to Michigan where they will take on Albion College on Friday at 7 p.m. and Adrian College on Saturday at 1 p.m.
