Hiram, OH- A pair of goals from
Nic Jandeleit lifted the Yeomen soccer team over Hiram on Saturday night. The team moves to a 5-6-3 overall record and 3-1-1 in NCAC play.
Â
Oberlin opened the game with a high-energy shot from
Ben Kessler into the upper corner of the net. Just high of cage, Jandeleit responded with another shot on cage that was saved by the Hiram keeper. Third times the charm as Jandeleit found the back of the net in just the 6' to put the Yeomen up 1-0 over the Terriers. Minutes later, Hiram responded with a low shot, but
Parker Whitcomb made the dive to stop the shot. Trying to extend their lead, Oberlin unleashed four quick shots on goal, each saved by the Terriers. Unable to create anymore offensive action, both teams went into halftime, Oberlin up by one.
Â
The Yeomen got off to a slow start in the second half, not taking their first shot until after ten minutes of play. The Terriers took advantage of the slow start and notched their first goal of the evening, tying up the score at 1-1. After a bout of back-and-forth action, Oberlin retook the lead as
Alex Caceres connected with Jandeleit for a shot to the lower left corner. Up 2-1 and looking for an insurance goal,
Augie Smith found
Toby Wells-Zimmerman across the cage to extend the Yeomen's lead. The Crimson and Gold back line held strong for the remainder of the night as Oberlin rolled its way to a 3-1 victory.
The Yeomen return to Oberlin next week on Tuesday, October 19 for the first of a three-game stint on Shults. Denison and Oberlin will kick off at 7pm with the live stream available
