Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Yeowomen Soccer Come Up Victorious Against Terriers and Lightning

Oberlin, OH- After an extended halftime due to lightening delays, the Yeowomen soccer team took down the Terries of Hiram College by a score of 2-1 on Friday night. The win improves Oberlin to 7-5-1 and 3-1-1 in the NCAC.

The game got off to a slow pace as each time battled to maintain possession through the first ten minutes of the half. Freshman midfielder Brynn Adams broke away in the midfield and raced towards the Terriers' cage. A long shot from outside the box came up short in front of the Blue and Red keeper, as the Yeowomen remained scoreless. Midway through the half, Hiram stormed the Oberlin's backline to slip the ball past Isabelle Smith, taking a 1-0 lead in the match. Jordyn Nadley responded for the Yeowomen with a shot right in front of the cage but could not convert the take. Minutes later, it was Nadley again looking for the equalizer against Hiram's keeper. The Terriers kept their lead as time expired and went to the locker room with the 1-0 advantage.

As the second half set to begin, the officiating staff called for lightning in the area resulting in a 30-minute delay. The extended halftime was exactly what Oberlin needed as they returned with nothing short of excellence. As soon as they took the pitch, the Yeowomen worked the ball up field to Heather Benway who sent a long shot in to the back of the net, tying the match at 1-1. Rolling off that momentum, the Yeowomen stuck again, this time coming off a cross from Benway that met with Zoe Garver. Up 2-1, the Terriers picked up the pace and slung a pair of shots towards Smith. With neither on target, the Yeowomen maintained their lead into the final ten minutes of action. The Oberlin defense withstood a series of late-game shots from Hiram to secure the 2-1 victory.

The Yeowomen take a short break before returning to action in Granville, Ohio as they take on the Denison Big Red. The conference matchup will begin at 7pm with the live stream available here and live stats available here.
