Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Yeomen Edge Britons in Closing Seconds

Albion, MI – Max Cha's goal in the final seconds of play gave the Oberlin College men's lacrosse team a thrilling 12-11 come-from-behind victory over the Albion College Britons on Saturday afternoon.

Following a Yeomen timeout with 29 ticks left in the fourth quarter, it didn't take Cha long to find the back of the net for the game-winner as he scored just nine seconds later. The Britons won the ensuing faceoff but never got off a shot as the clocked trickled down to zero.

Oberlin trailed 7-4 at the half but scored four times in each of the third and fourth quarters as they doubled up the Britons 8-4 over the final 30 minutes of play.

Seven different Yeomen deposited a goal in the game with Tom Decker leading the charge for the second straight game as he posted four tallies on the board. Cha, who matched Devlin O'Keefe with a team-high two assists, tied Thomas Berle Carman with two goals as well.

Albion jumped out to a 2-0 lead until Michael Muldoon got the Yeomen on the board with the help of a Berle Carman feed. After another tally by the Britons, Joey Edell cashed in a helper from Decker and Berle Carman would add another goal to make it 3-3 after one quarter of action.

Cha's first goal of the day gave Oberlin a brief 4-3 advantage but the Britons would respond with four consecutive scores to take a three-goal lead into the intermission.

Decker opened the third-quarter scoring with a man-up goal off a pass from Cha. Following an Albion score, O'Keefe would first setup Decker and then later Griffin Cappelletti to cut the deficit down to one at 8-7.

Unfortunately, Albion answered with a pair scores but O'Keefe was able to sneak one in before the third-quarter horn with the help of a Cappelletti feed, trimming the Albion lead down to 10-8 going into the final frame.

Oberlin would tighten up defensively over the final 15 minutes, allowing just one goal in the period.

Berle Carman netted the first goal of the quarter and Decker followed with two in row after getting setup by Cha and Jack Stevens to make it an 11-10 Yeowomen advantage. However, the Britons found the equalizer at the 2:04 mark and the game appeared to be headed to overtime before Cha's last-second heroics.

Senior goalie Calvin Filson went all 60 minutes between the pipes and made 14 saves in the win. Kiernan Stone led the ground ball count for the Yeomen with eight.

The victory moved the Yeomen to 2-0 on the young season while Albion dropped back to 3-2.

Oberlin returns to action next Saturday against Hope College at 3 p.m. in a match that will be played at the University of Michigan.
