Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Second-Half Struggles Sink Yeomen at DePauw

Greencastle, IN – The Oberlin College men's basketball team suffered a 71-62 defeat at DePauw University on Saturday afternoon.

For the second time this season, senior Joshua Friedkin scored 23 points against the Tigers to tie his season-high total on 8-of-13 shooting. Isaac Finestone chipped in 12 points while Christian Fioretti also added 12 points to go along with seven assists.

The Yeomen got off to a quick start, building up a 13-5 lead less than five minutes into the game but a 9-0 Tiger response run put them out in front by one. It would remain nip and tuck for the rest of the half as DePauw ultimately carried a 28-25 lead into the locker room.

Midway through the second half the DePauw margin would extend out to nine, 50-41, but Oberlin quickly got back within five with 7:47 left expire. However, the Tigers thwarted any significant chance of a Yeomen comeback with a 12-2 burst that ballooned the advantage to 62-47 with just 4:06 left on the clock.

Oberlin didn't rollover though in the closing minutes, twice fighting to within nine points but it was too little too late to have an impact on the final result.

The Yeomen were exploited in the paint as the Tigers outscored them 38-24 on the interior and also finished with a 38-24 rebounding advantage - netting 13 second-chance points along the way.

The loss dropped Oberlin back to 11-8 overall and 5-7 in the NCAC. The Tigers, who completed the season series sweep of the Yeomen, moved to 10-9 and 7-5 in league play.

Oberlin will play its second of a three-game road swing on Wednesday night at Ohio Wesleyan University. Tip-time is set for 8 p.m.
