Meadville, PA – The Oberlin College men's basketball team led from start to finish as they earned a commanding 68-52 victory over the Allegheny College Gators on Wednesday night.
Senior
Christian Fioretti paced Oberlin with 20 points, 12 rebounds and eight assists as he moved into first all-time in the Yeomen record books with 337 career assists.
Isaac Finestone continued his strong play as of late, narrowly missing out on a second straight double-double with 10 points and nine boards.
A pair of
Joshua Friedkin free throws put Oberlin up 9-2 in the early going but Allegheny trimmed the lead to two, 11-9, before a Fioretti jumper halted the Gators' momentum halfway through the first half.
After an Allegheny triple pulled the home team within one, 13-12, Oberlin went on an 11-0 run, due in part to a pair of 3-pointers from Finestone, to open up some breathing room at 24-12 with 6:39 to go until the break.
The Gators would get to the line their next two possessions and knock down all four freebies before the two teams traded baskets the rest of the way as the Yeomen held a 33-25 edge at the half.

Charles Tiedemann jumper to begin the second half pushed the Oberlin advantage back to double digits, 35-25, but Allegheny responded with a 10-2 spurt to cut the deficit to two, 37-35, at the 14:29 mark.
That was as close as the Gators got to grabbing their first lead of the night as back-to-back buckets from Fioretti spearheaded a 12-2 Yeomen run to balloon the lead back to 12, 49-37, with 8:28 to go in the contest.
Allegheny trimmed the margin to single digits, 49-40, a minute later before
Wolf Moser answered with a triple to help Oberlin cruise to a 68-52 road win.
Shooting was the difference in the game as the Yeomen shot 44.6% from the field compared to 30% for the Gators. Oberlin also won the battle of the boards, outrebounding Allegheny 34-25.
The Yeomen head to #7 Wittenberg on Saturday, January 25 at 4:00 p.m. where they'll look to avenge the come from behind victory by the Tigers back on November 26 inside Philips Gym.
