Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Oberlin Offense Stifled in Second Half Defeat

Springfield, Ohio – The Oberlin College men's basketball team led by six points at the half but mustered just 21 points in the second as #7 Wittenberg came from behind to win 63-51 on Saturday afternoon.

Joshua Friedkin led Oberlin scorers with 11 points while Andre Campbell was the only other Yeomen in double figures with 10 points and nine boards.

The first 10 minutes of the game was a back and forth affair as an Evan Suppa three gave Oberlin a 16-14 advantage at the 9:49 mark before beginning a 9-0 run that pushed the Yeomen lead to 23-15 with 6:44 to go until the break.

A Friedkin 3-pointer bumped the margin to nine, 30-21, with 2:54 remaining in the first half but a 3-point play by Wittenberg to end the first stanza sent Oberlin to the locker room ahead by six points, 30-24.

A make from long range by the Tigers cut the deficit to four, 38-34, just under four minutes into the second half before Isaac Finestone answered with a triple of his own to stretch the Yeomen advantage back to nine, 45-36.

Less than two minutes later however, another 3-pointer by Wittenberg trimmed the margin to two, 46-44, at the 11:54 mark before they tied the score at 48-48 halfway through the second half.

The Tigers would rattle off four more points in a row to take a slim 52-48 advantage but a timely triple from Wolf Moser pulled the Yeomen within one with 7:02 left in the contest.

Unfortunately, that would be the last Oberlin points of the game as Wittenberg scored the final nine points of the game to hand the Yeomen another tough defeat to the Tigers this season, 63-51, in a game that saw the lead change just eight times as Oberlin played from ahead for most of the contest.

The Yeomen struggled shooting the ball in the second half (28%) after making 44.4% of their attempts in the first 20 minutes. It was just the opposite for the Tigers who hoisted the rock at a 33.3% clip in the first half before shooting a blistering 52% in the second stanza.

Oberlin returns home on Wednesday January 29 for an 8:00 tip with the Kenyon College Lords.
