Greencastle, Indiana – The Oberlin College men's soccer team got on the board late but it was not enough as DePauw doubled them up 2-1 in its North Coast Athletic Conference opener on Saturday afternoon.
The Tigers struck early in this one as a rebound off a save by the Yeomen goalkeeper was put away for a goal in the 8
th minute to put Oberlin behind in a hurry.
The Yeomen answered with a pair of shots in the next couple of minutes but one was off target and the other was handled by the Tigers goalie. Oberlin had a corner kick opportunity in the 25
th minute which resulted in a
Harrison Tramposch shot that missed high.
In the closing minutes of the first half, the Yeomen were fouled in the box for a penalty kick but
Julian Klingen's attempt was turned away, sending Oberlin to the break still trailing by one.
Zach Butter had a chance in the 60
th minute but his shot to the bottom left corner was sent away by the DePauw keeper. A couple of minutes later, an
Eddie Aguayo shot hit the post as Oberlin continued to pressure the Tigers in search of its first goal.
The Yeomen again had corner kick opportunities in the 76
th and 79
th minute to no avail before

Ben Kessler in the 88
th minute, for his fourth goal of the season, to give Oberlin a last-minute comeback chance.
Nic Jandeleit looked for that equalizer with 48 seconds remaining but his shot was secured by the Tigers goalkeeper to preserve the 2-1 victory.
The teams ended up tied in shots (14-14) and shots on goal (6-6) with DePauw holding a slight edge in corner kicks 7-5.
Oberlin returns home on Saturday, October 5
th for a Homecoming Weekend conference tilt versus Ohio Wesleyan at 6:00 p.m.
