Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field Hockey Wins Home Opener Over Allegheny

Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College field hockey team used a big second half en route to knocking off the visiting Allegheny College Gators, 3-2, on Tuesday night at Fred Shults Field.

The Yeowomen were without a shot in the first half and trailed 1-0 at the break as Ramsay Smith's goal less than 10 minutes into the contest gave the Gators their first point of the season and the early lead.

Oberlin would find the equalizer shortly into the second half, earning two penalty corners in a row with the second try leading to the game-tying tally. After the insertion by Libby Royer, she found room on the back post and took a redirect off the stick of Bonnie Wileman and sent it into the back of the cage.

In the 44th minute, Royer would strike again as she followed Wileman's initial shot attempt and sent the rebound back in to put the Yeowomen out in front for good. For the Columbus, Ohio, native it was her third goal of the season and 10th of her career.

Less than two minutes into the fourth quarter the Yeowomen would get an all-important insurance goal as Reet Goraya was awarded a penalty stroke attempt and the junior from Rockville, Maryland, knew what do with it by sending her shot into the upper right 90 of the cage.

The Gators continued to fight to the very end – scoring their second goal of the night as time expired off a penalty corner.

The Gators finished with a 12-5 advantage in shots, but just six of their shots were on frame.

Mary Post went the distance in goal and made four saves in the win.

Oberlin returns to action at home on Saturday at high noon against Earlham College.
