Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Oberlin Drops Defensive Struggle to Heidelberg 1-0

Oberlin, Ohio - The Oberlin College men's soccer team allowed a 63rd minute goal and fell to Heidelberg University on Saturday afternoon at Shults Field.

Possession went back and forth in the first half with Heidelberg holding a 6-1 advantage in shots at the break.

The Yeomen had a corner kick opportunity in the 61st minute but a header by Jack McMillin sailed over the crossbar.

A couple minutes later, Heidelberg capitalized on a loose ball in the box when Kyle Morton made a move close to the end line toward the near post and snuck one past the Oberlin goalkeeper in the 63rd minute to break the tie.

The Yeomen had two more corner kicks in the 70th and 80th minute but were unable to muster a shot on goal.

As Oberlin was frantically trying to tie the game up in the final minute, Parker Whitcomb made consecutive saves on a Heidelberg attacker to give his team a chance for the equalizer. Unfortunately, the Heidelberg defense closed out an impressive performance as they held the Yeomen to just one shot on frame.

Oberlin hits the road for its next two games, starting on Wednesday, September 25th against Westminster College at 5:00 p.m.
