Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Yeomen Drop a Heartbreaker at John Carroll

University Heights, Ohio – The Oberlin College men's soccer team finished on the wrong end of a thrilling 3-2 decision at John Carroll University on Friday night in what was the season opener for both sides.

The Yeomen trailed 2-1 late into the match as the Blue Streaks were trying to preserve their one goal lead. However, in the 88th minute it was sophomore Nic Jandeleit who provided the equalizer with the help of a Ben Kessler assist. For the sophomore duo it was Jandeleit's third-career goal and Kessler's second-career assist.

With overtime now appearing imminent, the Blue Streaks had other ideas as with just 31 seconds left to play, JCU's William Turrittin escaped free and beat Oberlin keeper Parker Whitcomb for the game-winning tally.

The Yeomen didn't generate much upfield movement in the first half as the Blue Streaks outshot them 10-1 and led 2-0 at the intermission.

The Yeomen would eventually cut the lead in half in the 70th minute when Kessler finished off a feed from senior Jack McMillin to put some pressure back on the Blue Streaks.

Unfortunately, Oberlin couldn't sustain the momentum as the Blue Streaks settled back in to regain control of the match prior to Jandeleit's late laser that tied it.

JCU, who went to the NCAA Tournament round of 16 a season ago, finished with a 23-6 advantage in shots, including a 10-2 margin in shots on goal. The Blue Streaks also triggered 10 corners compared to Oberlin's two.

Whitcomb went all 90 minutes in goal and made a career-high seven saves.

The Yeomen have a short turn around as they come home to host Marietta College on Sunday afternoon at 3:30 p.m.
