Granville, OH – The Oberlin College men's lacrosse team didn't have enough firepower to keep pace with No. 14 Denison as the Yeomen fell 16-4 to the Big Red on Wednesday night.
The Yeomen jumped on the Big Red with the game's first two goals but Denison answered back with nine straight before Oberlin got on the board again.
Matthew Barry finished off a
Tom Decker feed less than two minutes before Decker rifled one home at the 11:44 mark of the opening quarter.
The Big Red would hold the Yeomen scoreless all the way until the 12:57 mark of the third quarter when
Thomas Berle Carman stopped the scoring drought with his 13
th goal of the year.
Denison led 12-3 late in the third before the rookie combination of
Taylor Walters and
Michael Muldoon connected for Walters' first-career goal.
Calvin Filson went the distance in goal, totaling 11 saves to run his season account to 84.
Denison finished with a 37-25 advantage in shots and had a 31-23 edge in ground balls.
Oberlin won 11 of the 24 face-offs with
Max McAllister going 6-of-13 and
Maurice Freese finishing 5-of-11.
The loss dropped Oberlin back to 3-6 overall and 0-2 in the NCAC. Denison improved to 7-2 and 2-0 in league play.
The Yeomen are back in action on Saturday at home against DePauw University. The opening face-off is set for 1 p.m.
