Yeomen Pick Up First NCAC Win at Kenyon

Gambier, Ohio – The Oberlin College men's basketball team earned a 77-57 road win at Kenyon College on Wednesday night.

Freshman Dorde Otasevic turned in the best performance of his young career as he poured in 23 points on 8-of-9 shooting. Senior Andre Campbell added 19 points and matched Joshua Friedkin with a team-high eight rebounds. Christian Fioretti added 13 points and three assists, while Wolf Moser chipped in 12 points off the bench on 5-of-7 shooting.

Otasevic jump started the Yeomen, scoring their first seven points of the game. The Lords trailed just 11-10 six-and-a-half minutes into the contest but a mini 7-0 spurt by Oberlin that featured a traditional 3-point play by Moser to give Oberlin some breathing room.

A slashing layup by Friedkin with 5:32 left to play in the opening stanza gave Oberlin its first double-digit advantage of night at 27-16. The two foes would essentially trade buckets the rest of the way as the Yeomen carried a 36-26 cushion into the intermission.

Less than four minutes into the second half a pair of free throws by Campbell extended the lead to 47-31. The difference would twice swell to as many as 18 points with the second time coming courtesy of a 3-pointer by Moser that made it 57-39 with 9:34 left to play.

The Lords tried to chip away at the deficit, cutting the gap down to 13 on multiple occasions but they would get no closer as the Yeomen never wilted down the stretch and kept the Lords at bay.

Oberlin shot a blistering 49.1 percent (28-of-57) from the floor and went 17-of-23 at the free-throw line for a 73.9 percent success rate. The Lords connected on just 22 of the 56 shots they hoisted for a 39.3 percent clip. The Yeomen also won the battle of the boards, 39-29.

The victory ran the Yeomen's record to 6-2 overall and 1-1 in the NCAC. Kenyon dropped back to 3-3 and 1-1 in league play.

Oberlin returns home on Saturday to host DePauw University at 3 p.m. The Yeowomen will also welcome the Tigers at 1 p.m. and all students are encouraged to attend both games for the SAAC Holiday Hoops event.
