Yeomen Win a Double Overtime Thriller at Wooster

Wooster, Ohio – The Oberlin College men's soccer team got just the result they were looking for on Saturday afternoon at The College of Wooster, earning a thrilling 3-2 double overtime victory over the Scots.

Senior Jack McMillin would send the Yeomen home happy with his 104th-minute finish that kept the Yeomen squarely in the postseason picture for a potential NCAC Tournament berth with 12 points. The local Oberlin native ripped the shot from in front of the Yeomen bench and curved it just inside the far right post for his third goal of the season.

Battling through cold and wet conditions neither team was able to find a first-half tally as the foes went into the interval scoreless.

Less than six minutes into the second stanza, the Yeomen would breakthrough for the game's first goal as Eddie Aguayo headed home a shot inside the near post off a beautiful service from Ben Kessler.

The Scots would eventually find the equalizer in the 74th minute, but Oberlin would quickly retake the lead just over three minutes when Nic Jandeleit deposited his team-leading seventh goal of the year.

Unfortunately, the Scots found a way to respond once again as Max Hill would even the match in the 82nd minute to set the stage for extra time.

However, the free soccer nearly didn't happen as Yeomen keeper Fiachra McDonagh made three key saves in the close minutes of regulation, including a Hill attempt in the 89th minute that he got just enough of to push over the crossbar. The junior from Beechhurst, New York, would make three more stops across the two overtime periods as he finished with a season-high 10 saves.

The Scots fired off 27 shots with 12 on goal while the Yeomen put seven of their 10 attempts on frame. Wooster also ended with a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks.

The Yeomen have won four of their last five matches to move to 7-9 overall and 4-3 in the NCAC. The Scots are also 7-9 on the year but are now 3-4 in league play.

Oberlin will have its toughest test of the season on Wednesday when it travels to No. 14 Kenyon for a critical conference clash starting at 3:30 p.m.
