Gambier, Ohio – The Oberlin College men's soccer team dropped a 5-1 NCAC match-up at No. 12 Kenyon College on a rainy afternoon at Mavec Field.
The Lords came into the match with 28 goals on their home pitch and wasted no time getting number 29 as Sam Carson finished off a feed from Tomas Munoz Reyes just 56 seconds into the match.
A 16
th-minute tally from Scott Upton created some breathing room for the Lords, but the Yeomen would nearly cut the deficit in half when
Nic Jandeleit put a shot off the post in the 29
th minute. Just minutes earlier,
Eddie Aguayo also had a look that got corralled by Kenyon keeper Ian McInturf.
The Lords would go on to add second-half goals from Sebastian Gaese and Sam Hosmer-Quint to leave no doubt in the eventual outcome as the lead ballooned to 4-0.
The Yeomen would eventually get on the board in the 70
th minute when Jandeleit lifted a shot from outside of the box into the upper right corner of the net to get Oberlin on the board.
However, eight minutes later Kenyon's Collyn Carpenter had a response as he finished off a corner kick service from Adam Silberg to cap the game's scoring.
Junior netminder
Fiachra McDonagh denied five of Kenyon's shots to run his season saves account to 33 in six games played.
Kenyon fired off 30 shots with 11 being on frame. The Yeomen attempted 11 shots, five of which were on target. The Lords also triggered 17 corners compared to Oberlin's one.
The loss leaves the Yeomen needing a win over Wabash on Saturday with some additional results to go their way in order for them to reach the postseason.
Oberlin will honor seniors
Griffin Burns,
Jiadi Cheng,
Jack McMillin, and
David Shostak prior to its 2 p.m. tilt with the Little Giants.
