Big Red Sweep Yeowomen

Granville, Ohio – The Oberlin College volleyball team dropped a straight-set affair at Denison University on Wednesday night as the Big Red topped the Yeowomen 25-21, 25-14, and 25-16.

Sophomore Natasha Radic led the Yeowomen attack with 12 kills on 34 swings, while Maura Gibbs added 10 kills in the setback. Emery Beacom continued her strong play in the middle with six kills and five blocks. As team, Oberlin hit .163 for the match with 39 send-downs.

Samantha Lam did her part to keep the Yeowomen in system as she finished with 32 assists while matching Gibbs with nine digs. Zoe Kuzbari led Oberlin's backline unit with 12 digs.

In the tight first set, back-to-back finishes by Gibbs had the Yeowomen within one point at 20-19, but the Big Red scored three of the next four points to create some separation en route to the four-point victory.

Oberlin never threatened in the second or third sets as the Big Red went on two have 26 kills against just four errors, while the Yeowomen recorded 22 kills with 12 miscues over the final two games.

The loss dropped the Yeowomen back to 9-12 overall and 1-6 in the NCAC. Denison improved to 16-6 and 5-1 in league play.

Oberlin will step back out of conference play on Saturday when it travels across state lines to take on the Golden Tornadoes of Geneva College (PA). The first serve is set for 1 p.m.
