Oberlin, Ohio – On a rainy Wednesday night at Shults Field the Oberlin College men's soccer team sent the visiting Allegheny College Gators home with a 2-1 overtime loss.
The win improves the Yeomen to 2-2 in the North Coast Athletic Conference and stay in contention for a playoff spot.
Ryan Kim scored his first career goal in the 18
th minute on a header off a free kick from
Julian Klingen to give Oberlin the early lead.
The weather and field conditions hindered play at times throughout the night as Oberlin held a slight 4-3 advantage in shots at the break with only three combined shots on frame.
The Gators answered back early in the second half as a through ball up the middle of the field led to a breakaway goal to knot it up in the 47
th minute.
The Yeomen had the better scoring chances in the second 45 minutes as they outshot the Gators 13-5. They almost broke the tie in the 76
th minute when
Ben Kessler's strike from outside the box hit the right post as the game would go to overtime.
After a scoreless first 10 minutes,
Thomas Kanter sent the fans who survived the elements home happy in the 106
th minute after he finished off Kessler's pass into the box in the bottom right corner.
Parker Whitcomb made seven saves in goal for Oberlin to earn his first win of the season.
The Yeomen remain home as they welcome Hiram on Saturday, October 19
th for a 7:00 p.m. match.
