Granville, OH – The Denison University Big Red scored early and often en route to earning a 49-0 victory over the Oberlin College Yeomen on Saturday afternoon at Piper Stadium.
The Yeomen defense came in allowing under 70 yards per game on the ground and did a good job of bottling up the Big Red in the early going. However, after getting stopped by the Yeomen deep in the red zone on their first possession, Denison would score a touchdown on six of its next seven drives to break the game wide open.
Sophomore running back
Kobe Brooks was a bright spot for Oberlin as he busted out a career-best performance with 150 yards rushing on 24 attempts, which included a collegiate-best rip of 56 yards. Rookie
Ryan McCrum added 28 yards on five rushes.
Seven different Yeomen caught a pass in the game, led by tight end
Brandon Davies who snagged four balls for 27 yards. Freshman quarterback
Chris Allen Jr. was under duress all afternoon long as he was sacked five times and finished 13-of-35 passing for 112 yards with an interception.
The Big Red used a quick-strike offense throughout the 60-minute affair as their longest scoring drive lasted just 3:15.
Senior
Devin White led the Yeomen defense with 10 tackles and the Yeomen added six more tackles-for-loss to run their season account to 44.
Justin Godfrey,
Von Wooding, and
Mason LeVasseur each had a sack in the setback.
Oberlin will try and notch its first win of the season next Saturday at home against Hiram College. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m.
