Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College volleyball team made quick work of the visiting Lady Barons, beating them in straight sets on Friday night inside Philips Gymnasium.
After an early 4-4 tie in the first set, the Yeowomen won six of the next eight points to take a 10-6 advantage and force a Lady Barons timeout.
Lauren Fitts notched a second consecutive service ace out of the timeout but Franciscan answered back with a 9-3 run to take a 15-14 lead and force an Oberlin timeout. The Yeowomen responded by winning seven of the next eight points, thanks to three
Jaya Flynn-Young service aces, to regain the lead 21-16. An Oberlin attack error cut the margin to two at 21-19 but a pair of kills by
Emery Beacom down the stretch secured a 25-21 first set victory.
Another Beacom kill gave the Yeowomen a 9-6 advantage early in the second set before back-to-back service aces by Lindsay Felton and Fitts pushed the lead to seven at 15-8.

Maura Gibbs for a kill to keep Oberlin in control at 18-10 but an attack error trimmed the Lady Baron deficit to six at 20-14. This time errors plagued the Lady Barons and the Yeowomen capitalized with kills by Beacom and Lam in the latter stages of the set to give Oberlin a 25-16 second set win.
A service ace by Flynn-Young broke an early tie to put Oberlin ahead 7-6 in the third set before Fitts followed with a kill to give the Yeowomen a 12-9 lead and force a Franciscan timeout. Out of the timeout, Oberlin attack errors allowed the Lady Barons to knot things back up at 12-12 as the teams traded points for a stretch to keep the score tied 19-19. A Franciscan kill and Oberlin attack errors gave the visitors a two-point lead but the Yeowomen answered with three consecutive kills to retake the lead at 22-21 and force a Lady Barons timeout. After an attack error gave Oberlin a two-point advantage, the teams swapped kills with
Natasha Radic closing out the set 25-23 and the match three sets to none.
Beacom led the Yeowomen with 16 kills while Gibbs was also in double-digits with 11. The offense ran through Lam as she registered 36 assists to go along with eight digs on the defensive end.
Zoe Kuzbari paced the Oberlin defense with 10 digs as Flynn-Young picked up four blocks.
Oberlin will head to Wittenberg on Friday, October 18
th for a 7:00 p.m. NCAC match.
