Eddie Aguayo netted his first-collegiate goal with just under five minutes to go in the first half, and the Oberlin College men's soccer team made it stand up the rest of the way as they outlasted the Wittenberg University Tigers 1-0 on Friday night.
Senior
Jack McMillin picked up his second assist of the season and 10
th of his career, running his personal points total to 42.
The Yeomen tally proved to be their only shot on goal in the match, but
Griffin Burns,
Charlie Stube,
Ben Kessler,
Thomas Kanter, and
Alex Caceres also triggered a shot in the victory.
The triumph snapped a four-game slide for the Yeomen as they moved to 4-8 overall and 1-2 in league action. Wittenberg fell back to 3-10 and 0-3 in conference play.
The clean sheet effort by Oberlin marked its first shutout since last year's 2-0 blanking of the Tigers on September 29, 2018.
Junior
Fiachra McDonagh went all 90 minutes between the pipes, making five saves en route to notching his third-career shutout.
The Tigers finished with an 11-6 edge in shots and earned 10 corners compared to Oberlin's three.
The Yeomen will look to make it two in a row on Wednesday night when they return home to host Allegheny College at 7 p.m.
