Little Giants Stomp Yeomen

Oberlin, Ohio – The No. 21-nationally ranked Wabash College Little Giants came into Philips Gymnasium and cruised past the Oberlin College Yeomen, 86-50, on Saturday afternoon.

The Little Giants improved to 6-0 in conference play, which is the school's best start since joining the North Coast Athletic Conference.

The lone Yeomen player to reach double figures was junior guard Christian Fioretti, as he scored 10 of his 14 points in the first half. Off the bench, Jordan Armstrong also chipped in seven points and Charlie Riordan provided a spark late with six rebounds, four blocks and four points.

The Little Giants offense was led by Jack Davidson who scored a game-high 21 points. Four other Wabash players finished in double figures, including Matt Chinn who cashed in 12 off the bench.

After an early 4-2 Yeomen lead, the Little Giants built up the first significant difference, 19-12, when Alex Eberhard made a pair of the free throws at the 11:44 mark. In 42 seconds a basket by Charles Tiedemann and a Fioretti jumper cut the Wabash lead to 19-16.

Unfortunately for the Crimson and Gold, it was all Little Giants the rest of the half as they built up a 16-point lead before the break. Wabash, who shot 61.5 percent (16-of-26), took a 15-point lead into halftime when Eberhard capped the first-half scoring with 21 ticks on the clock.

The Little Giants did not let the Yeomen back in the game in the second half as they built up a 38-point lead when Drew Flemming knocked down a shot with 1:23 left.

Wabash shot an impressive 56.9 percent (33-of-58), with 44 points coming inside the paint and 28 off the bench. The Little Giants also controlled the boards all day with a 41-32 advantage in rebounds.

The Yeomen made 16-of-59 (35.5 percent) of their shots and were 1-of-23 (4.3 percent) from 3-point land.

The lose drops Oberlin to 7-5 overall and 3-2 in conference play, while Wabash remains atop the conference standings and are 12-1 overall.

The Yeomen will look to turn it around on Wednesday night when they face The College of Wooster Fighting Scots who are currently ranked No. 14 in the nation. The opening tip is set for 7 p.m.
