Field Hockey Falls at Earlham

Richmond, IN — The Oberlin College field hockey team finished its trip to Indiana with a 4-0 loss at Earlham College Sunday afternoon.

Trailing 1-0, first-year forward Abby Rosenthal fired on cage in the 16th minute but Earlham's keeper Camille van der Vaart turned the Oberlin chance aside. After another Quaker goal, the Williston, Vermont, native had another opportunity to score but van Der Vaart made another play to keep Earlham up 2-0 at halftime.

In the final 35 minutes, Katie Ryan-O'Flaherty had the lone opportunity for Oberlin but the senior's shot went wide. The Quakers would tack on two more goals in the second half as Denise Bergdolt and Natalie Blatz recorded goals.

On the defensive end, Kennedy Kline held her ground as she faced all 24 Earlham shots and made 12 saves. Senior defender Emma Broun helped out her classmate in cage as she recorded her second defensive save of the year.

The Yeowomen fall to 1-8 on the year and are winless in conference play. Earlham picked up its first conference win of the year and is now 4-5 overall.

Oberlin will look to rebound next weekend when they welcome the Ohio Wesleyan University Battling Bishops and The College of Wooster Fighting Scots to town for a pair of conference games. Both games are slated to start at 12 p.m. on Bailey Field.
