Ada, Ohio – The Oberlin College men's soccer team succumbed to a 4-2 defeat to the Ohio Northern University Polar Bears on Saturday night.
The Polar Bears controlled the run of play, evident by a 34-9 margin in shots, including an 18-3 difference in shots on goal.
All of the scoring action came in the second half as the Yeomen held ONU scoreless in the opening stanza.
Less than a minute into the second half, a foul in the box led to an Oberlin penalty kick.
Trenton Bulucea stepped up to the spot and sent in his first goal of the season.
Unfortunately, the Yeomen lead was short-lived as Timothy Hoffman sent in a rebounded shot off the foot of Levi King to even the match at 1-1.
ONU (3-2-1), which had a 7-1 edge on corners, would take the lead in the 51st minute on a Beelal Hasan goal, but just 19 seconds later,
Brian James would cash in a feed from
Jack McMillin to square the match at 2-2.
The relentless pressure from the Polar Bears caused the Yeomen backline to breakdown as ONU would score twice within 13 seconds to seal the victory. The third goal of the season from Anthony DeNoi was followed by King's third tally of the year to seal the victory.
Freshman goalie
Parker Whitcomb impressed in his collegiate debut, totaling 14 saves on the night.
Oberlin (0-6-0) is back in action on Wednesday night at Baldwin Wallace University at 7 p.m.
