Track and Field Athletes Compete in Final Last Chance Meet at Ohio Wesleyan

Delaware, Ohio – Select Oberlin College track and field athletes had one last opportunity to qualify for the national meet at the Great Lakes Last Qualifying Meet hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University Thursday afternoon. 

Hank Sinn was the lone Yeomen performing today and bested his school-record mark in the hammer event. On the junior's second to last throw of the day, he reared back and hit the 179-04.00 mark, which bested his mark from last weekend (178-01.00).

Monique Newton earned a second-place finish in the discus with a toss of 152-02.00. In addition Newton's classmate Ana Richardson had a career-best toss of 145-10 to finish fourth. Currently Newton ranks second in the country with her 2018 best heave of 160-03.00 and Richardson is tied for 16th with the mark taken this afternoon.  
 
In the shot put event, Newton and Naeisha McClain took first and third. The senior ripped off a throw of 44-02.50 and McClain's best mark of the day was 39-04.00. Newton's season-best mark of 47-06.25 from the conference meet currently ranks fifth on the list.

The Yeowomen trio of Maya English, Ana Richardson and Jasmine Keegan took three of the four spots in the hammer throw. English won the event (163-11.00), Richardson came in right behind English (161-08.00) and Keegan finished fourth (153-03.00). Richardson's best mark of 2018 of 168-00.00 ranks 22nd right now, while Newton (182-06.00) sits in fifth on the list.
 
In addition, senior sprinter Lilah Drafts-Johnson and sophomore pole vaulter Grace Finney each earned third-place finishes. Drafts-Johnson finished the 800 in 2:19.99 and the sophomore cleared 11-08.50 in the pole vault. 

With the final last chance meet complete the athletes that qualify will look to leave their mark on the national stage next week in Lacrosse, Wisconsin. The top-20 student-athletes on the men's side and the top-22 women in each event will qualify for the 2018 NCAA Championships on May 24-26.
