Hiram, Ohio — The Oberlin College men's lacrosse team earned a commanding 24-8 victory over the Hiram College Terriers on Wednesday night at Henry Field.
Senior attackman
Steve Kelleher led the way offensively with an eight-point performance as he scored five goals with three assists. Along with Kelleher, his classmate
John Pierce netted a season-high four goals.
John Sutherland,
Jay Messina and
Reese Koburov also recorded hat-tricks in the contest.
Oberlin dominated the game statistically as they outshot Hiram 50-24 with 35 of its shots on cage. The Yeomen also won 23-of-36 face-offs in the contest with rookie face-off specialist
Max McAllister leading the way as he won 14-of-17.
The Yeomen jumped out to an early 5-2 as Pierce netted two goals in a row with his second coming off a feed from his classmate
Ian McCague.
After Hiram put another point on the scoreboard late in the first period, Oberlin scored the next eight goals to give the Yeomen a 10-goal lead, 13-3, off Kelleher's third tally of the game. The Terriers netted two goals in the final three minutes of the first half to make it a 13-5 Yeomen lead at halftime.
With the outcome never in doubt, Oberlin outscored the Terriers 11-3 in the second half. Kelleher netted his fifth goal of the game to close out the scoring with 49 ticks left on the clock.
The Yeomen win their second straight and go to 7-7 on the year and are 2-5 in the North Coast Athletic Conference. The Terriers fall to 6-8 overall and are 1-6 in conference play.
The Yeomen look to keep its winning streak alive on Saturday as they make the trip to Greencastle, Indiana to face the DePauw University Tigers at 2:30 p.m.
