Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Yeomen Fall Short at Kenyon

Gambier, Ohio – The Oberlin College men's lacrosse team sensed that their postseason fate was on the line as they put forth a tremendous effort, but it wasn't enough as the Kenyon College Lords pulled away for a 15-10 win over the Yeomen on Wednesday afternoon.

Oberlin trailed 11-10 with 10:32 left to play in the fourth quarter, but the Lords scored the game's final four goals to secure the victory.

Rookie sensation Tom Decker scored two times as did senior Steve Kelleher, while sophomore goalie Calvin Filson continued to impress between the pipes with 15 saves.

Oberlin raced out to an early 2-0 lead as Reese Koburov and Decker found the back of the net within the first two minutes of action. After the Lords got back to even, the two foes would trade goals with John Pierce's finish off a Decker feed making it a 5-4 Yeomen advantage with 8:56 left to play in the first half. Unfortunately, the Lords would close the session with four straight goals to give them an 8-5 cushion at the intermission.

Oberlin and Kenyon would alternate goals throughout the third quarter as Kelleher cashed in pair, while Jay Messina and Daniel Pardee each found the back of the net in the quarter, but the Lords still carried an 11-9 edge into the fourth.

First-year Thomas Berle Carman would score his ninth goal of the season to cut the margin down to just one with 10:32 left to play, but Kenyon would take control from there to preserve the victory.

The loss dropped the Yeomen back to 5-7 overall and 0-5 in the NCAC, while the Lords moved to 8-4 and 4-2 in the league.

Rookie Max McAllister went 16-of-25 on the face-off X and corralled a team-high 11 ground balls.

Oberlin will honor its senior class prior to Saturday's contest against Wabash College on Bailey Field. The opening face-off is set for 1 p.m. with the senior day festivities taking place at 12:50 p.m.
