Oberlin, Ohio – The No. 16 ranked Kenyon College Lords jumped on the Oberlin College men's soccer team early and never looked back en route to earning a 7-2 victory over the Yeomen at Fred Shults Field on Wednesday night.
Less than a minute into the contest the Lords had a 1-0 lead as David Anderson headed in cross from the far side by Greg McNeer. In the sixth minute, Brice Koval would open his two-goal performance with a penalty kick finish before depositing one in the run of play in the 14
th minute of action to make it 3-0.
Kenyon rookies Finn Trondson and Sam Carson would also net their first-career goals to stake the Lords to a 5-0 halftime advantage.
The second half was much more closely contested with Oberlin becoming just the second team all year to score more than one goal in a game against the Lords.
Yeomen first-year
Ben Kessler cashed in a beautiful through-ball by
Trenton Bulucea in the 65
th minute for his first-career goal in the crimson and gold. Following a quick response goal by Kenyon, Bulucea was on the giving end again as he sent in a long setpiece service into the box to senior classmate
Brian James for his second goal of the year and sixth of the season. The helper was Bulucea's fourth the year and 23
rd of his career, which is one shy of Matt Filner's second-place mark of 24 that he registered between 1987-90.
With the final outcome never in jeopardy, the two foes continued to battle to the final whistle.
Max Buri got the start in goal and made two saves in the first half before giving way to
Parker Whitcomb in the second session.
Kenyon finished with a 15-6 margin in shots, including a 9-2 cushion in shots on goal. The Lords also triggered seven corners compared to Oberlin's two.
The Yeomen will conclude their season on Saturday as they welcome the DePauw University Tigers to town for Senior Day. The first touch is set for 3 p.m.
