Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Yeomen Soccer Ends Season with Senior Day

Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College men's soccer team ended its season, falling 1-0 to the DePauw University Tigers on Saturday afternoon at Fred Shults Field.

Prior to the match, the Yeomen honored its senior class of Trenton Bulucea, Noah Binford, Daniel Tuzzolino, and Brian James for their dedication to the program.

The result for the Yeomen was one that was all too familiar this year as it was their 11th one-goal loss of the season.

Neither team found a tally in the first half with the most promising Yeomen chance coming just before the horn as Jiadi Cheng forced Tigers' keeper Austin Bodner to make a play to retain the scoreless match at the break.

Oberlin would challenge Bodner early in the second half as well, but he would answer the call by denying a header from Jack McMillin before turning away a shot from James. In the 65th minute, rookie Ryan Kim also sent a shot into the breadbasket of Bodner.

The game's lone goal would come a mere four minutes later as Jack Herbst finished off a cross following a pair of connective passes from Grady Bruch and Clay Troyer.

The Yeomen continued to fight for the equalizer as they triggered seven more shots down the stretch to no avail. In the 75th minute, Erik Emsbo had tried to settle a bouncing ball in the box but lifted one high over the crossbar. In the 79th minute, Charlie Stube rapped a laser shot that appeared destine for the back of the net but Bodner was able to get just enough of it to flick it over the bar to keep the lead intact. Bulucea would have one last shot on frame in the 82nd minute that would not go.

Oberlin finished with a 14-8 advantage in shots, including a 7-2 edge in shots on goal. Corner kicks were even at 2-2.

Max Buri went the distance in goal and made one save.

The Yeomen will shift their focus to the 2019 season when they start the non-traditional segment in the spring.
