Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Yeowomen Upended by Battling Bishops

Delaware, Ohio – The Oberlin College field hockey team was defeated by the Ohio Wesleyan University Battling Bishops, 4-1, at historic Selby Stadium Wednesday evening.

In the opening 35 minutes, the Battling Bishops registered the only goal as just nine minutes in Jamie Grant posted an unassisted tally. The Yeowomen struggled to push upfield in the first half, while Ohio Wesleyan took 11 shots, but could only put four shots on cage.

After the break, Ohio Wesleyan quickly doubled its lead when Alexis Roberts scored at the 36:31 mark, but the Yeowomen answered back fast.

A Libby Royer penalty corner created three opportunities in the 49th minute as Amelia Huang and Abby Rosenthal each forced the keeper to make a play, but Rosenthal drew a penalty stroke. The Williston, Vermont, native netted her first-career goal off the penalty to pull the Yeowomen within one while breaking a three-match scoreless streak for the team.

Unfortunately for the Yeowomen, Ohio Wesleyan would score the final three goals of the contest. The last strong chance for Oberlin came with 11 minutes left when Elizabeth Modahl forced the Battling Bishops' keeper to make a save off a Royer corner.

The Yeowomen were outshot 23 to 11 in the contest as the Battling Bishops put 13 shots on target. The Oberlin offense was efficient in the game as they put five of their 11 shots on target and created four penalty corner chances.

Kennedy Kline played all 70 minutes for Oberlin as she fended off nine of the Ohio Wesleyan attempts. The senior's nine stops brings her career total to 442 and her season tally to 166.

Oberlin drops to 1-16 this season and remains winless in NCAC play, while the Battling Bishops go to 10-6 overall and are 7-6 in conference action.

The Yeowomen will put a bow on the 2018 season on Saturday at The College of Wooster. The opening whistle is scheduled for an 11 a.m. at John P. Papp Stadium.
