Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Last-Second Goal Sends Oberlin Home Heartbroken

Crawfordsville, IN – The Oberlin College men's soccer team suffered a gut-wrenching 2-1 defeat on Saturday afternoon at Wabash College.

The match appeared to be heading into extra time, but with just 20 ticks left in regulation the Little Giants' Timothy Herring had other ideas as he put one past OC keeper Park Whitcomb – who entered the game just minutes prior – to leave the Yeomen shell-shocked.

After a scoreless first half were neither team had many chances, it was the Little Giants who tallied the game's first score in the 53rd minute as Joseph Kaefer deposited his first goal of the year.

Oberlin continued to fight and eventually found the equalizer in the 82nd minute as the rookie duo of Thomas Kanter and Nic Jandeleit made a play to even the match. Jandeleit netted his second-career goal while Kanter earned his first-career assist.

Unfortunately, the Yeomen never had another opportunity for the lead as they triggered just three shots in the loss compared to Wabash's 21 attempts, nine of which were on goal.

The Little Giants, who had an 8-1 margin in corner kicks, moved to 11-3-2 and 4-2-1 in the NCAC. Oberlin heads home at 1-14-0 and 1-6-0 in league action.

The physical affair featured 23 fouls and four yellow cards, two of which went against the Yeomen.

Fiachra McDonagh made seven saves for the Yeomen before he was lifted in the 87th minute.

Oberlin is back in action at home on Wednesday night as Kenyon College comes to town for a 7:30 p.m. conference clash.
