Quakers Spoil Senior Day for the Yeowomen

Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College field hockey team dropped an 5-0 decision to the visiting Earlham College Quakers on Saturday afternoon to sour the Senior Day celebration at the Austin E. Knowlton Athletics Complex.

Prior to the match, Oberlin honored its 2019 graduating class of Kennedy Kline, Katie Ryan-O'Flaherty, Amelia Huang, Emma Broun, Julie Schreiber, Jenna Gyimesi, and Meg Parker.

The Quakers established the majority of possession during 70-minute battle, but finished the period with a 6-5 advantage in shots. Earlham also triggered five penalty corners compared to Oberlin's two.

Earlham posted the game's first tally as Sofia Savatore sent in a shot with the help of an Denis Bergdolt assist in the 26th minute to get the early advantage. After the goal, the Yeowomen pushed up field and created its their own opportunities.

Libby Royer's two penalty corners in the final nine minutes of play of the period led to a pair of Reet Goraya shot attempts. Her first chance Earlham's goalkeeper Maragaret Murphy batted away and her second attempt was denied defender Natalie Blatz with 6:04 left in the half.

In the second half, the Yeowomen struggled to create many chances on the offensive end. With 11 minutes left, Elizabeth Modahl had a shot that forced the Quakers keeper to make a play and Gyimesi put a shot on goal with less than five minutes on the clock.

Earlham would leave no doubt in the eventual outcome, tacking on four goals in the second half to run its record to 7-9 overall and 3-8 in the NCAC. Oberlin dropped back to 1-14 and 0-11 in league play.

Kline made four saves to run her season total to 144 and career mark to 420. Broun also added a defensive save in the setback for the Yeowomen.

Oberlin will take to the Bailey Field turf for the final time this season on Sunday as the DePauw University Tigers come to town for a 12 p.m. conference clash.
