Yeowomen Field Hockey Falls at Denison

Granville, Ohio – The Oberlin College field hockey team succumbed to a 5-0 defeat at Denison University on Saturday afternoon.

The Big Red controlled the run of play throughout the 70-minute affair, finishing with a 32-0 advantage in shots, including an 16-0 margin in shots on goal. Denison also earned all 12 penalty corners in the game.

The Big Red struck first as Abby Scully cashed in an unassisted goal in the second minute to stake them to the early advantage. Denison would also get first-half goals from Maya Tumiwa and Lucy Pearsall to carry a 3-0 lead into the intermission.

The Yeowomen struggled to create many chances on the offensive end throughout the contest.

Denison would leave no doubt in the eventual outcome, tacking on two goals in the second half to run its record to 12-2 overall and a perfect 10-0 in the NCAC. Oberlin dropped back to 1-13 and 0-10 in league action.

Senior Kennedy Kline went the distance in goal, making 10 saves to run her season total to 140 and career mark to 402. Rookie Lea Watkins-Chow also added a defensive save in the setback for the Yeowomen bringing her team-high total to seven.

After concluding their three-match road trip today, the Yeowomen return home next weekend for their final two home tilts of the year. Prior to Saturday's 12 p.m. battle with Earlham, Oberlin will honor its seven senior members. The home schedule will conclude with a high noon showdown against DePauw on Sunday.
