Field Hockey Falls at Wittenberg

Springfield, Ohio – The Oberlin College field hockey team dropped a 7-1 decision on Wednesday afternoon at Wittenberg University.

Despite the loss, the Yeowomen snapped a four-match scoreless streak that dated back to September 23 as senior Jenna Gyimesi deposited her first goal of the season and second of her career.

The Tigers struck first at the 5:46 mark of the first half as Blaine Donnelly found space inside and finished off a feed from Flora Van den borne to put the home team out in front early.

The Oberlin equalizer would come in the 13th minute as Gyimesi finished off a pass from Amelia Huang to even the count. The assist was the first of the season for the Yeowomen senior and seventh of her career.

The Yeowomen trailed just 2-1 at the half, but the Tigers would pull away with five second-half goals to leave no doubt in the eventual outcome.

Kennedy Kline played all 70 minutes in goal, making 10 saves to run her season total to 130. First-year Lea Watkins-Chow and junior Libby Royer each added a defensive save in the setback. For Watkins-Chow it marked her fifth straight game with a goal-saving denial, running her season total to five.

The Tigers finished with a 24-2 margin in shots, including a 19-1 advantage in shots on goal. Wittenberg also earned 11 penalty corners compared to three for Oberlin.

The Yeowomen are back in action on Saturday as they take on the Denison University Big Red in Granville, Ohio at 11 a.m.
