Alliance, Ohio – The Oberlin College men's soccer team fell to the University of Mount Union by a score of 2-1 at Mount Union Stadium.
The Yeomen got off to strong start, outshooting the Purple Raiders 10-5, while taking all four of their corner kicks in the first half of play.
The strong offensive attack led to only goal of the first half when
Jack McMillin cut through the Mount Union defense and netted his fifth goal of the season in the 15
th minute.
In the second half, the Purple Raiders controlled the pace of play in a physical 45 minute frame that featured six fouls and a yellow card. Mount Union fed off the feistiness and tied the game at 1-1 in the 64
th minute.
The Yeomen made a late push and had three opportunities in the final four minutes of play to prevent the game from going into overtime.
Trenton Bulucea got off a shot that was blocked, and
Ben Jennings headed a ball that was set aside by the keeper. With less than two minutes remaining in the half,
Jonah Blume-Kemkes fired the final shot of regulation wide right.
Senior
Matthew Bach-Lombardo took the only shot for Oberlin in the overtime period, but it was blocked by a Purple Raider defender.
Mount Union scored the game-winner in the 99
th minute when Kevin Blackley scored his second unassisted goal of the night.
Freshman goalkeeper
Fiachra McDonagh earned his first start of the season and made six saves for the Yeomen.
Oberlin falls to 4-4-1 and the University of Mount Union improves to 4-4-0.
The Yeomen are back in conference play on Sunday when they travel Springfield to take on the Wittenberg University Tigers at 1:30 p.m.
