CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. - Oberlin College men's lacrosse got back to winning ways with a 19-7 rout of the Wabash Little Giants on Saturday afternoon.
The Yeomen had a slow start in the opening period but found traction in the second to take a 7-0 lead into the half. A 13-goal second half got the Yeomen over the hump and lifted the Crimson and Gold to their first North Coast Athletic Conference victory of the campaign.
The win in the Hoosier State moves men's lacrosse to 5-8 overall and 1-5 against league competition.
First-year goalie
Calvin Filson had a stellar first half, posting a shutout through the opening 30-minutes. Filson closed the first half with five stops en route to a 13-save performance against the Little Giants. His performance on Saturday pushes his season total to 134 and marks his fifth consecutive double-digit save performanceÂ
While Filson was busy turning away Wabash shots, the Yeomen were cashing in on goals.
The Crimson and Gold cashed in on a man-up opportunity with 5:38 remaining in the first frame as
Jack Fabrizio and
Regan Chasney connected for the first score.
Jay Messina and
Kinori Rosnow connected for the second Oberlin score and Fabrizio notched his second of the match to put the Yeomen in front 3-0 to open the second frame.
Steve Kelleher and Messina kept the Yeomen rolling in the first half with two more scores and
Reese Koburov and Chasney put the Crimson and gold ahead 7-0 heading into the intermission.
Less than two minutes into the second half Wabash got on the board with two scores, but the Yeomen quickly snubbed out the offensive streak.

Will Prangley got the Yeomen moving on a five-goal scoring run to put the Little Giants deficit back to six.
Erik Zeug kept Oberlin rolling before Koburov capitalized on a man-up advantage with an assist from
Eric Hager. Chasney collected his third of the day and Hager flung in his first goal of the game.
Wabash stopped the run to close the third quarter, but Chasney and Fabrizio capitalized on another man-up opportunity. With the scoreline at 13-3, the two sides exchanged goals staring with the Little Giants Steven Stark striking first and Hager responding. Dajon Thomas and Wabash capitalized on a man-up advantage, but only for Messina to kick start a streak of five unanswered Oberlin goals.
Rosnow, Hager, Messina and Hager again closed Oberlin's scoring run and put the Little Giant deficit to 14, 19-5. Tucker Dixon picked up two late scores for Wabash but it was too little too late.
It got pretty chippy over the course of the afternoon as the Yeomen and Little Giants combined for 13 penalties in the contest.
The Yeomen outpaced the Little Giants offensively totaling 74 shots to 27 for Wabash, with 39 shots on goal compared to 20 for the Little Giants. The Yeomen didn't have a lot, but were efficient breaking into the final third converting on 12-of-14 clears.
On the faceoff X, Rosnow dominated the action winning 21-of-23 faceoffs, with
Mark Addonizio collecting 4-of-6 to combine for 25-of-29.Â
Oberlin men's lacrosse returns on Tuesday, April 18 when they host the Hiram College Terriers.
