Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Yeomen Fall Short Against the Scots

Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College men's lacrosse team was unable to keep pace with the visiting Fighting Scots of Wooster as they came into town and defeated the Yeomen, 13-8, on Saturday afternoon at the Austin E. Knowlton Athletics Complex.

The difference in the game was a five-goal second quarter from the Scots in which they also kept the Yeomen scoreless.

Senior captain Kinori Rosnow led the Oberlin charge as he posted a team-high three goals to go along with 15 ground balls. The Kirkland, Washington, native also won 18-of-25 face-offs on the afternoon.

Jay Messina and John Sutherland each added two Yeomen goals, while Eric Hager increased his season total to 15 with one score and two assists.

The Scots netted the game's first two goals as Matt Parmelee and Sam Kuhn each scored unassisted. However, Oberlin would get on the board at the 4:48 mark when Sutherland would cash in a feed from Hager. In the final seconds of the quarter, Messina would send in his first of the day with the help of a Reese Koburov pass which made it 3-2 in favor of Wooster.

The Scots would break the game open with the five-goal barrage in the second quarter to lead 8-2 at the intermission, but Oberlin wasn't done.

With some halftime adjustments in place, the Yeomen fought their way back into the game. Messina and Hager cut the gap in half with two quick scores to start the third. Looking for a third straight goal, Rosnow won the ensuing face-off and quickly got the ball up field to Sutherland who also all alone on the back post, but his shot was denied by Wesley Wager who finished with 15 saves for the Scots.

The Scots would use the momentum from the key save to rip off three straight scores of their own before Rosnow would rifle in the final goal of the third period to make it 11-5.

In the fourth, the final outcome was never in doubt, but the Yeomen kept pushing. Trailing 13-5, the Yeomen would record the final three goals of the game. Sutherland tallied his fifth score of the season, finishing off a pass from Koburov. Rosnow would then go on to complete his hat-trick performance, posting goals eight and nine on the season over the final 4:08.

First-year goalie Calvin Filson did his part to keep the Yeomen within striking distance as he totaled a career-high 15 saves in the setback.

The Scots out-shot Oberlin 44-37, but the Yeomen finished with a slight 35-31 edge in ground balls. Wooster was successful on 25-of-30 clears, while the Yeomen flipped the field 15 times on 19 tries.

With the win, Wooster moved to 7-5 on the season and 3-0 in the NCAC. The Yeomen dropped back to 4-6 and 0-3 in league play.

The Yeomen return to action next Saturday as they travel to Denison University. The opening face-off is set for 1 p.m.
