Men’s Basketball Falls at Wittenberg

Springfield, Ohio - The Wittenberg University Tigers pulled away in the second half to defeat the Oberlin College men's basketball team, 87-63, on Saturday afternoon at Pam Evans Smith Arena.

Freshman Joshua Friedkin led the Yeomen attack with a career-high 20 points to go along with a team-best four assists. The Emeryville, California, native was 6-of-11 from the floor, which included an impressive 4-of-6 showing from beyond the arc.

After being held to just two points on Saturday, sophomore Eric Holt bounced back with 15 points. Andre Campbell matched Holt with a team-high five rebounds and added eight points in the setback.

Midway through the opening half the Tigers opened up an 18-6 lead, but an 8-2 Yeomen response that featured four points from Campbell had the gap down to six, 20-14, with 6:41 left in the frame. However, the Tigers would quickly push the lead back out to double digits and ultimately took a 32-22 advantage into the locker room.

Early in the second half a jumper from Eli Silverman-Lloyd had the Yeomen within nine at 40-31, but the Tigers would answer back and never surrendered their double-digit cushion the rest of the way.

Four Tigers finished in double figures led by Cody Phillippi as he posted 16 points in the win.

Wittenberg shot an impressive 54.8 percent (34-of-62), while the Yeomen checked in at 44.7 percent (21-of-47). Oberlin was outscored 42-26 in the paint and the Tigers also cashed in 23 points off of 16 Yeomen turnovers.

The Yeomen return home on Wednesday night as they will play host to the Lords of Kenyon at 8 p.m. The Yeowomen and Ladies will precede them at 6 p.m.
