Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men’s Basketball Falls in Closing Moments at Wabash

Crawfordsville, IN  - Oberlin and Wabash were tied at 55 with 1:42 remaining in the game, but once again the Yeomen suffered late heartbreak as the Little Giants pulled away down the stretch to earn a, 65-59, victory on Saturday afternoon.

Oberlin was clinging to a 39-38 lead early in the second half, and the Yeomen would create some separation with an 8-2 run that featured five points from Joshua Friedkin to make it a 47-40 advantage with 8:48 left on the clock.

However, the Little Giants answered back with a 10-2 response run and ultimately took their first lead of the second half at 50-49 on a 3-pointer from Colten Garland.

With Wabash up 58-55, a corner three from Duncan Roy proved to be the dagger as the Little Giants went up six with 23 seconds to go and they would ice the game away at the three throw line. Wabash moved into fifth in the conference standings at  11-12 overall and 7-9 in the NCAC.

First-year Andre Campbell continued his torrid play, cashing in 12 of his career-high 20 points in the opening half on 6-of-7 shooting. He finished 10-of-13 from the floor and is shooting 62 percent over the past six games.

Sophomore Eric Holt reached double figures for the 15th time as he added 13 points, while Friedkin chipped in nine points to go along with five assists.

A 3-pointer from Holt gave the Yeomen a 22-16 lead with 7:28 left in the first half and three consecutive buckets from Campbell would later increase the Oberlin cushion out to 12, 28-16. However the Little Giants would close the frame on a 9-0 run to cut the gap down to just three at the intermission as Oberlin had to settle for the 28-25 advantage.

It was nip-and-tuck throughout the 40 minutes of action as the game featured 10 lead changes and eight ties along the way. Oberlin held the lead for 29:55 worth of action, but unfortunately could not make it stand up in the end.

Oberlin shot 44.2 percent with 23 makes on 52 shots. Wabash checked in at 41.5 percent, hitting on 22-of-52 attempts. The Little Giants took eight more free throws than the Yeomen, connecting at a 68.2 percent clip (15-of-22). The Yeomen were just 9-of-14 at the stripe for 64.3 percent.

The Yeomen will close out the season at home next week as they welcome the Gators of Allegheny on Wednesday night and then host DePauw next Saturday afternoon.
