Series Information …
The Yeomen trail the all-time series 22-28-1, but have won three out of the last four meetings against the Gators, including the historic 48-9 win in 2015 when the Oberlin offense set a single-game school record with 690 yards … Quarterback
Lucas Poggiali also set the single-game passing mark with 506 yards to go along with four touchdown passes.
Last Time Against Gators …
The Yeomen trailed 20-0 after one quarter and they tried to fight back, but the Gators did just enough to hold on to snap their 22-game losing streak by earning a 26-21 victory over the Yeomen …
Robby Reinheimer was a bright spot for the Yeomen with 70 yards and a score, while
Khalil Rivers also stood out with 93 yards on the ground to go along with a TD.
Scouting the Gators …
The Gators are in year two of rebuilding process with Head Coach B.J. Hammer and continue to show signs of improvement each week … The Gators boast one of the conference's top quarterback and wide receiving duos in Logan Lee and Alex Victor … Lee is ranked third in the NCAC in passing at 289 yards per game as he has thrown 29 TD tosses, which is second most in the NCAC … Victor has been on the receiving end of 13 of those touchdowns as he comes in averaging 95.8 yards per game … Tyler Balla is capable ground gainer as he ranks third in the league at 95.1 yards per game to go along with eight TDs … Defensively is where the Gators can be exploited as they allow 40.9 points and 467.1 yards per game, both of which rank eighth in the NCAC.
Talking Bout Taylor …
Zach Taylor, who has 1,755 passing yards, needs 245 yards to hit the 2,000-yard mark… Despite missing one game this season, Taylor has a chance to register just the fifth 2,000-yard season in program history … Greg Mangan did it twice (2006,2007), while James Parker reached the mark in 1997 … The most recent quarterback to do so was Josh Mandel, who threw for 2,048 yards in 2011.
A Lot on the Line for the Backers …
Linebackers
Von Wooding and
Bennett Jackson have a chance to make some history on Saturday … Wooding, who has 93 tackles on the year, could become the first Yeoman since Chase Palmer to register 100 tackles in a season as he made 103 tackles in 2007 ... Jackson is third all-time with 284 tackles, leaving him eight shy of Vance Murphy (2002-05) who made 292 stops in his career.
Big Day for Briggs …
Having not played since September 23, sophomore running back
Melvin Briggs made the most of his return to the Yeomen backfield with a career-best performance in last week's 27-14 win over Hiram … The Holy Spring's, North Carolina, native totaled 113 yards and two touchdowns on 21 carries, setting new career-highs in each category.
1-2 Punch …
Wide receivers
Ryan Gleeson and have
Corey Fussinger have combined for 1,141 yards on the season … Gleeson leads the team with 52 catches and 616 yards, while Fussinger has 525 yards on 34 receptions … They are the first Yeomen wide receiving pair to have over 500 yards in the same season since Robin Witjes (943) and Dan Weintraub (561) did it in 2012.
Robby Running Wild …
Junior wide out
Robby Reinheimer has had great success in his two career games against the Gators … He has corralled 15 balls for 298 yards and two touchdowns, which includes his 228-yard effort in 2015, which was the third-best receiving game in program history.
A Chance to Unseat the Kidd …
Freshman
Bryant Walker leads the NCAC in punting with an average of 40.7 yards per kick … If he can keep his average up against the Gators, he will not only win the conference punting crown, but he will unseat Cory Kidd for the best single-season punt average in school history as Kidd averaged 40.6 yards per punt in 2010.
Three More Threes? …
Sophomore place kicker
Michael Leshchyshyn is tied for second all-time in single-season field goals with eight makes on the year … One made kick on Saturday would move him into sole possession of second on the list, but if he happens to make three field goal tries against the Gators, he would tie Steve Willever's school record of 11 in 2002.
