Kenyon Pulls Away from Yeowomen in the Second Half

Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College field hockey team surrendered five second-half goals to the North Coast Athletic Conference leading Kenyon College Ladies to fall by a score of 6-0 inside the Knowlton Athletics Complex.

Despite being outshot 17-1 in the first half, the Yeowomen played a strong defensive period that was highlighted by the play of junior goalkeeper Kennedy Kline. The Philadelphia, Pennsylvania native, made 11 saves and only allowed one goal before the halftime horn.

The Kenyon goal was in the third minute of play when Katleyn Hutchinson weaved her way through the defense and fired into the top left corner.

Oberlin looked to answer back quick as the Yeowomen pushed up the field in the fifth minute giving Meg Parker a chance from close range, but it would be turned aside by the Ladies' keeper Sarah Speroff to keep Kenyon's 1-0 lead intact at the intermission.

Out of halftime, the Ladies pulled away, as they would score four goals in the first 17 minutes of the second half.

The lone Oberlin shot in the final 35 minutes of play came in the 55th minute when junior Amelia Huang fired a shot that was blocked down by a Kenyon defender.

The Ladies would tack an insurance goal in the 64th minute when Tara Shetty streaked down the sideline and snuck a shot past the trusty Yeowomen goalkeeper.

Kline was three shy of her career-high in saves as she finished the game with 18. Senior defender Dillon Sebastian also helped the defensive cause with two defensive saves.

The Yeowomen fall to 1-13 on the season and 0-8 in league play. Kenyon stays on top of the conference standings with a mark of 7-1 and improved to 10-2 on the year.

Oberlin continues game three of its four-game homestand on Friday when they host another conference powerhouse in Denison University at 4:30 p.m.
