Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College men's soccer team fell to Hiram College by a score of 2-1 in its third North Coast Athletic Conference game of the season.
The Yeomen struck first when junior
Trenton Bulucea sent a ball from the midfield that
Timothy Williams controlled and moved to the center of the field to free
Jack McMillin for an easy goal in the 12
th minute. The local Oberlin native has scored in three of the last four games and brought his season total to seven.
The Terriers answered the Oberlin goal in the 21
st minute when Giovanni Meza streaked up the sideline, forcing the Oberlin keeper out of the net and in turn leaving Keanu Shelton with a wide open net for an easy goal.
The Yeomen had a chance to regain the lead before halftime when
Brian James got off a shot from inside the box, but the Hiram goalkeeper CJ Keith made a diving save to his right.
After the intermission, Oberlin would get another opportunity to regain the lead when Williams took a shot from close range that sailed high.
In the 73
rd minute, Hiram scored the game-winning goal when Taje Davis split the defense and found Christian Nshimyumur who buried the one-on-one opportunity from inside the box.
The Yeomen pushed up field with urgency late to try and tie the game up before time expired. Oberlin would get its best chance with less than three minutes to play as a Hiram foul just outside the box gave Bulucea an indirect kick, but his great cross went through the end line for a goal kick.

Connor English held his ground in between the pipes as he recorded seven saves.
The Terriers outshot the Yeomen 16-10 and attempted one more corner than the Yeomen in the game.
Oberlin, who falls to Hiram for the first time since the 2013, goes to 4-6-2 on the year and 0-3-0 against NCAC foes. Hiram earns its first conference win of the year going to 1-2-0 in league play and is now 3-8-0 overall.
The Yeomen are back in action on Wednesday night when they travel to Graville for a match up against Denison University at 7 p.m.
